about Joanne

Professional Training and Experience

 

Joanne is a Person-Centred Counselling Psychotherapist working across Glasgow and East Dunbartonshire in person and anywhere online. 

 

Joanne completed her first Master's Degree in Psychology at the University of Stirling, reading particularly focussed on neurodiversity and Autism (ASD) before training to be a Counselling Psychotherapist at the University of Strathclyde on their BACP accredited master's course in Counselling and Psychotherapy. Joanne is registered with and regulated by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). She is fully trained with adults and children, supervised in both Person-Centred and 'Emotion-Focussed' therapies, and is also specifically certified to work in play/talk with children and young people.

Joanne practices using evidence-based approaches and has been taught and influenced by many eminent authors in the field of attachment, and addiction. Joanne is a continuing reader and researcher, including the many works of Dr Gabor Mate, Dr Bruce Perry, and Dr Brene Brown. Joanne's career pathway began in education where she worked with people including young people with care and curiosity for their learning styles, growth, and well-being. Building nurturing relationships is a continuing key feature of her successful approach.

Joanne is a trained and well-experienced 'Restorative Practices' Practitioner and is adept in these skills to working with relational conflicts between people, of all ages, parents, adult children,  and young people alike with an empathic and compassionate approach. Joanne is focused and researched on the use of language and self-awareness to improve emotional well-being and relationships.

As an experienced practitioner, her empathic, warm, and accepting nature can make sharing difficult challenges more productive for clients, enabling them to feel safe, and empowered to grow. Joanne works reflexively with clients at their pace, helping them to reach their feelings verbally in an enlightening non-threatening way with support through the difficult bits till they reach new ground. Her experience working across multiple age groups lends itself to working with clients of all ages and she welcomes the opportunity to see how she can help you with any issues you may have.
